CUCKOO TIME

“No-one should leave this world unloved.

That’s the worst thing that can happen.

Worse than death?

Much worse…”

Two oddballs – her a volatile Swedish jazz singer, who has burnt her bridges with both her daughter and the local Irish community that rejects her, him a bird-loving older widower lost in time – are washed up together on a farm on the edge of the Atlantic. Fuelled by birdsong and brandy they try and live out the love story each of them has secretly longed for and been denied. But the world has no time for this scandalous – and explosive – pairing and takes action to burst their bubble. Separated in time and space, something of their odd misshapen love survives and is witnessed even if only by the birds…

“Whatever is wrong with you is just right for me.”

A new play by Carmel Winters written for the Glass Mask Theatre Stage.

"Superb Performances"

The Irish Independent

"We are in very safe hands with these actors. Conroy is superb in the role. His embodiment of Michael, (like his father “and his father before him, only not dead yet”) is replete and utterly convincing. Griehsel’s flamboyantly expressive style and excellent comic timing creates a larger than life persona which contrasts perfectly with Conroy’s restrained but funny, bewildered but introspective denotation of someone struggling with grief and memory loss."
